§ Mr. MacleanMy officials have written to interested parties enclosing a copy of the EC nutrition labelling (rules) directive adopted on 24 September, and summarising its main provisions. This supplements existing guidance to the industry and encourages manufacturers and retailers to provide comprehensive nutrition declarations in accordance with the directive. I shall consider further action in the light of surveys conducted on the extent of nutrition labelling and the level of consumer understanding.
