HC Deb 24 May 1990 vol 173 c327W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement concerning the items discussed at the meeting of Foreign Secretaries of the member states of the European Economic Community at Parknarsilla, Eire, on 19 and 20 May.

Mr. Maude

This was a successful meeting. Ministers discussed political union, (on which the debate was constructive) and preparations for the Dublin European Council. They also covered relations with other states in Europe and north America. There was a brief discussion of South Africa, during which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs gave an account of President de Klerk's visit to this country. As is normal at informal meetings, no decisions were taken.
