§ Mr. David YoungTo ask the Secretary of State for Health which district authorities in the financial year 1989–90 in the north-west had to cut services in order to remain within budget.
§ Mr. DorrellIn 1989–90, additional cash resources were made available to the North Western regional health authority amounting to about £88 million, which represented an increase of about 8.4 per cent. over the previous year. Taken together with about £19 million efficiency savings, this increase enabled service developments of £19.2 million to go ahead and meant that no district health authority needed to cut services to maintain a balanced budget.
