HC Deb 21 May 1990 vol 173 cc61-2W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessment has been made by his Department of the needs over the next 10 years for community hospital beds in each part of Wales; how this need will be met by the National Health Service and the private sector respectively; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

The requirement for community hospital beds is for district health authorities to determine in conjunction with family practitioner committees and other interests, and in the light of local needs and available resources. Local strategies for health, which are to be submitted to the Department by December 1991, will provide the context for a long-term review of requirements.
