The public contribution towards trainee allowances cannot be separately identified because employers also contribute and a proportion of trainees are employed and receiving wages. 3 TECs and training providers are required to ensure that travel costs above specified levels are paid to YT and ET trainees and child care costs to lone parents are also reimbursed. Expenditure on trainee allowances and child care will not be separately identified in 1990–91. 4 Child care costs are not available on youth training.
