§ Ms. Walley
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received following his call for an all out attack on excessive packaging at a packaging conference on 25 March; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Heathcoat-Amory
[holding answer 11 May 1990]: My right hon. Friend and other Ministers have received many representations in support of his call on 25 March for reductions in excessive packaging, and for an enhanced effort to promote recycling by manufacturers, retailers, local authorities, voluntary groups and Government 430W Departments. We have also received representations from the packaging industry emphasising the economic and environmental advantages of well-designed packaging.
