To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) on what dates payment of the funds made available to football through the reduction in the football pools betting duty from 42.5 per cent. to 40 per cent. will commence and cease;

(2) from what date the reduction in the football pools betting duty from 42.5 per cent. to 40 per cent. will apply.

[holding answer 8 May 1990]: Negotiations involving the Football Trust, the Pools Promoters Association and football authorities have reached an advanced stage. My right hon. Friend the Chancellor hopes to be able to make an announcement to the House shortly.
