§ Mr. John PattenA total of 177,000 offences of violence against the person were recorded in England and Wales in 1989, an increase of 12 per cent. compared with 1988. In Cleveland, the increase was 2 per cent.—40 more offences. Some of the increase in recorded figures is the result of more crimes being reported to the police.
§ 33. Mr. HindTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of total crime is made up of violent and sexual crimes.
