HC Deb 29 March 1990 vol 170 c286W
Mr. Litherland

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many defendants found guilty of a criminal offence, during the last five years, have been recommended for deportation by the court; and how many of these recommendations the Home Secretary has supported;

(2) in how many cases where there were no court recommendations for deportation after conviction of a criminal offence the Home Office has served notice to deport on grounds conducive to public good over the past five years.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

The available information for 1985 to 1988 is published in table 24 of the Home Office Command Paper "Control of Immigration: Statistics United Kingdom 1988" (Cm. 726), and for 1987 to 1989 in table 14 of the Home Office statistical bulletin 8/90 "Control of Immigration: Statistics—Fourth Quarter and Year 1990". Copies of both publications are in the Library.

The numbers of notices of intention to deport served on grounds conducive to the public good include a small number where there was no criminal conviction.
