§ Mr. PawseyTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment by how much the work force in employment in the United Kingdom has increased since 1983.
§ Mr. Patrick Nicholls[pursuant to his reply, 13 March 1990,c. 203–04]: I regret that the information given in my reply of 13 March 1990 was incorrect, as it gave employment estimates prior to the revisions following the publication, on 9 March 1990, of the 1989 labour force survey results. The correct information is as follows:
Since 1983 the United Kingdom work force in employment has been on a rising trend. In September 1989 the latest dare for which information is available, the work force in employment was 26,955,000. This represents an increase of 3,391,000 of 14.4 per cent. since March 1983 when the figure was 23,564,000.
