To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to control the use of gambling machines by young people under 18 years.

Of the machines covered by part III of the Gaming Act 1968, "jackpot" machines are permitted only on premises to which young people do not normally have access. With respect to amusement-with-prizes machines, local authorities have extensive powers to prohibit them in premises where they are incidental to the main business, and local authorities also have wide discretion to refuse permits for new amusement arcades.
