Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the cost in the latest year for which figures are available of treatment facilities for people with problems of drug abuse.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is (i) the cost and (ii) the proportion of total expenditure on facilities for people with problems of drug abuse incurred by(a) the National Health Service, (b) local authorities and (c) the non-statutory sector.

In 1989–90, the Department allocated £14.8 million to regional health authorities for the further development of all drug misuse services including treatment facilities. In addition, over £970,000 was allocated to local projects under the central funding initiative.
