I will be meeting the chairman of the Sports Council later today and we will be discussing a range of current issues relating to sport and recreation.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions he has held with the Sports Council and the Central Council for Physical Recreation about the new business rate and its impact upon sport.

My hon. Friend the Minister for Sport and officials of my Department have had a number of meetings with the Sports Council and the Central Council for Physical Recreation at which the impact of the business rate on non-profit-making sports clubs has been discussed.
