HL Deb 19 March 1990 vol 517 c183WA
Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty'sa Government:

In the most recent year for which figures are available, what was the percentage of students at (i) Oxford and Cambridge Universities, (ii) Bristol University, (iii) universities in general and (iv) polytechnics, who attended fee-paying schools.

Baroness Blatch

Twenty-five per cent. of UK domiciled full-time and sandwich undergraduates attending universities in Great Britain in academic year 1988–89 reported that their last school of full-time attendance was in the independent sector. By comparison 7–5 per cent. of school pupils attended independent schools. For individual universities this information is not released by the Universities Statistical Record without their consent. Similar information on polytechnics is not collected centrally.
