§ Mr. LangThe provisional value of cod, haddock, whiting and saithe landed by United Kingdom vessels in Scotland in January 1990 was £7.4 million, compared with £7.1 million in January 1989. The value of these landings therefore increased by 4 per cent. despite the reduction of 26 per cent. in the volume landed. Unit prices increased by as much as 57 per cent. in the case of whiting and 53 per cent. in the case of haddock.

The records of transferred patients could only be correlated at disproportionate cost; therefore numbers of deaths have been compared in each case with the known outcomes of patients being discharged from or dying in the same unit.
