§ Mr. Michael Forsyth[holding answer 9 March 1990]: The Government joined with the ophthalmic profession in a national eye awareness campaign to promote the benefits of eye care to the consumer. A series of newspaper and television advertisements ran from May to December 1989.
Awareness of the need to visit a dentist is stimulated by on-going health board campaigns and initiatives promoted generally through the community dental service. Further encouragement to have regular dental checks will be provided by the new contract for general dental practitioners.
