HC Deb 27 June 1990 vol 175 c285W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has for assisting local authorities which have a large influx of visitors during the summer months.

Mr. Chope

There is an allowance in the other services block standard spending assessment fot the costs related to tourism, based on the annual average number of nights that visitors stayed in a given local authority's area.

Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider a specific tourism grant for major holiday resorts to cover the additional costs associated with a large increase in population for parts of the year.

Mr. Chope

There is no need to establish a specific grant for this purpose. The costs which fall to local authorities as a result of seasonal influxes of tourists are already taken into account in the annual revenue support grant settlement.
