To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the number of managers within the national health service.

Managers may be employed in a wide range of professions and disciplines in the National Health Service; there is no single definition on which a total figure could be based. About 900 general manager posts, and an estimated 8,000 at senior and middle manager level, are currently included in management pay arrangements.
