To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the progress of his negotiations with the Welsh Yachting Association over the establishment of a marine nature reserve at Skomer.

The draft order in respect of the Skomer marine nature reserve was published in March 1990. Three representations were received during the statutory 28–day objection period including one from the Welsh Yachting Association. The points raised by the representations have been resolved and all the representations have since been withdrawn. We are therefore now proceeding with the designation of the area as a marine nature reserve in accordance with the requirements of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
