§ Mr. Archie HamiltonBetween 1960 and 1968 pay in the armed forces was reviewed every two years. Pay was610W determined by reference to changes in civil service pay (for officers) and to changes in average earnings in manufacturing and other industries (for other ranks). In 1968, armed forces pay was made the subject of a standing reference to the National Board for Prices and Incomes. The AFPRB was established in 1971 to advise the Prime Minister on pay and allowances in the armed forces. Until 1980 adjustments for pension benefits were linked to those agreed for the home civil service.
