To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how much will be invested in road and rail schemes over the next three years.

Mr. Parkinson

We expect that over the next three years some £6.2 billion will be invested in rail and underground schemes. In the same period £5.7 billion will be invested in the national road network and a further £2 billion on local roads.
