To ask the Minister for the Arts what has been the increase in real terms in his Department's budget since 1979; and if he will make a statement.

The increase in real terms in the Office of Arts and Libraries' Budget since 1979 is 48 per cent. This is a clear indication of the commitment that the Government have to the cultural life of Britain.
