HC Deb 07 June 1990 vol 173 c698W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish his Department's reasons for not supporting proposals to electrify the Holyhead to Crewe railway line.

Mr. Roberts

It would be for British Rail to bring foward the necessary investment proposals. The Government are always willing to approve investments put forward by British Rail provided that they are worth while. No economic case has been made however to justify the cost of electrifying this line.
