§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will call for a report from the chairman of London Underground as to which of the 126 fire risks at Tottenham Court Road station, as detailed in its fire hazards analysis, have been rectified; if he will list all those which have not been tackled to reduce the fire risk to a level acceptable to the London fire brigade; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreemanIn 1988, London Underground commissioned John Brown Engineering to carry out a study of potential fire hazards at Tottenham Court Road station. The consultant made a detailed survey to identify risks arising from combustible materials and how each material might be ignited. The consultant considered that 73 of the potential risks could be dealt with satisfactorily by the provision nearby of fire extinguishing appliances. I understand that action has been taken on the remaining 53 items.
When the LFB inspected the station on 3 November 1989, it found one item which required attention. I have been assured that London Underground has taken action on this.
