Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if Her Majesty's Government are prepared to match the offer of £30,000 per annum made by the World Wide Fund for Nature towards the costs of the investigation and enforcement officer employed by the CITES secretariat; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if Her Majesty's Government intend to make a contribution towards the operating costs of the investigation and enforcement officer employed by the CITES secretariat; and if he will make a statement.

The Government are fully committed to CITES and are considering the World Wide Fund for Nature's request for a contribution towards the costs of the investigation and enforcement officer employed by the CITES secretariat.
