To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what his forecast for the growth of business investment is for 1990.

My latest forecast, published in the "Financial Statement and Budget Report", projects business investment to fall by 1 per cent. in 1990. Some slowdown in the growth of business investment in 1990 must be expected as growth in the economy as a whole slows; but this follows three years when business investment has grown by over 40 per cent.
