HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c551W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is his estimate of the average cost of making a teacher redundant.

Mrs. Rumbold

This information is not available. Redundancy payments will depend on the age and length of relevant local government service of the teacher concerned and whether additional payments have been made under the Teachers (Compensation for Redundancy and Premature Retirement) Regulations 1989. A teacher aged 55 with 20 or more years' service would be entitled to a statutory redundancy payment of £4,968.
