HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c479W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will place in the Library a list of all sites of special scientific interest his Department considers to be of national importance.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

No. Such a document could be produced only at disproportionate cost. SSSIs are notified by the Nature Conservancy Council on the basis that the series of sites as a whole should contain adequate representation, in the form of the best examples, of the total countrywide range of natural wildlife habitats, geological features and landforms. These may be of local, national or international significance.
