HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c477W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress Her Majesty's Government have made in using recycled papers for document production by (i) Government Departments, (ii) public inquiries and (iii) other quasi-governmental organisations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

The policy on the use of recycled paper in Government Departments and other organisations is for each to determine in the light of their own needs. My Department is currently testing recycled photocopying paper and additional tests are to be conducted on offset litho paper and computer listing paper. If the trials are successful these uses will be added to the existing use of recycled paper for envelopes and letterheaded paper. The Government's recycling advisory group has been examining the broader market issues that affect the wider use of recycled paper and Ministers are considering further action that could be taken by Government and other public bodies.
