§ Sir Geoffrey HoweThe Services Committee's second report of Session 1986–87 (HC 378) and first report of Session 1987–88 (HC 561) both recommended that every hon. Member who so wished should have a room of his own by 1995. That objective remains, but its achievement will depend in part upon the effect on plans for the further development of the Bridge street site of London Underground's proposals to extend the Jubilee line through Westminster. The New Building Sub-Committee has now completed its inquiry into this matter, and its report is expected to be published on Friday 8 June (third report from the Select Committee on House of Commons (Services) (HC 334)).
459WMeanwhile, an additional 60 Members' offices (and space for about 100 Members' staff) will become available in phase 1 of the new parliamentary building during 1991, and plans at present under consideration for the conversion of other space in the Palace of Westminster will, if implemented, provide a significant further number of Members' offices in the main building during the 1992–93 Session of Parliament.
