HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c493W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if Her Majesty's Government will introduce legislation to establish a natural heritage agency to redefine the remits of the Highlands and Islands Development Board, the Forestry Commission and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland to pay closer regard to the sustainable use of natural resources.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 21 May 1990]: We propose to bring forward legislation in due course to establish a natural heritage agency for Scotland. We intend to publish shortly a consultation paper inviting views on our proposals, including the remit of the new body and its relationship to other public bodies. I will arrange for the hon. Member to receive a copy.
