To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his reply of 8 May, Official Report, columns26–27, what was the intended fate of the (a) monkey, (b) live pangolin and meat, (c) parrots, (d) great salamander and (e) live owl.

[holding answer 17 May 1990]: As I stated in my answer to the hon. Member on 5 April, confiscated endangered species are disposed of by the Hong Kong authorities by one of the following methods: live animals are released to the wild; specimens are sent to zoos, educational and scientific institutions or other CITES authorities; and perishable items are incinerated.
