HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c481W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what feasibility studies have been undertaken by his Department regarding the use of domestic sewage as a substitute for agrochemicals and peat by removing toxic elements in sewage sludge at source.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

No feasibility studies have been carried out by my Department into the use of sewage sludge as a substitute for agrochemicals and peat. Some 49 per cent. of sewage sludge is applied to agricultural land in England and Wales.
