HL Deb 05 June 1990 vol 519 c1358WA
Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What direct consultation they had with the Federation of Master Builders prior to deciding to reduce the funding to the Construction Industry Training Board for grant aiding trainees recruited under the youth training scheme.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Lord Strathclyde)

All consultations under the youth training scheme are being held with the Construction Industry Training Board. There is no direct consultation with the Federation of Master Builders.

Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Construction Industry Training Board has been successful in recruiting trainees under the youth training scheme, and what level of recruiting is expected in future as a result of a one-third reduction in funding of the scheme.

Lord Strathclyde

The Construction Industry Training Board has been successful in recruiting under the youth training scheme. The expected level of recruitment is under discussion between officials of the board and the training agency. Some of the provision contracted with the board last year will be contracted with other providers this year.
