To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what progress has been made in verification research in regard to nuclear testing since March.

The Government continue a programme of verification research as part of the United Kingdom's contribution to the work of the ad hoc group of scientific experts at the conference on disarmament in Geneva. This group last met in March and meets again at the end of this month. Work in the interim has concentrated on preparations for a technical trial (GSETT-2) involving the exchange of seismic data.
