Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment is made by his Department of the legislation of European and north American Governments that regulates the export of lethal and non-lethal military equipment.

Mr. Sainsbury

This is a matter for the Governments of the countries concerned. Our assessment indicates that NATO allies have comparable legislation to control exports for strategic reasons.

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what legislation regulates the provision of military training by British companies to foreign military forces.

This is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment has been made by his Department of alleged breaches of legislation that regulates the export of lethal and non-lethal military equipment by European and north American companies.
