To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) if he will publish in theOfficial Report the latest estimates of the number of households receiving housing benefit in England showing (a) the division between those who also receive income support and those who do not, (b) the division between council tenants and others and (c) the division between pensioner households, lone-parent families, two-parent families and others;

(2) if he will publish in the Official Report the latest estimates of the average amount of housing benefit paid in England, showing (a) the division between those households who receive income support and those who do not, (b) the division between rent rebates and rent allowances and (c) the division between pensioner households, lone-parent families, two-parent families and others;

(3) if he will publish in the Official Report the latest estimates of the cost of housing benefit in England showing (a) the division between those households who receive income support and those who do not, (b) the division between rent rebates and rent allowances and (c) the division between pensioner households, lone-parent families, two-parent families and others;

[holding answer 25 June 1990]: The latest estimates of the numbers of households and the average amounts of benefit paid are in table 1. Information is not fully available in the form requested.

The total expenditure figures in table 2 are derived from local authority estimates. The breakdown into client groups is achieved by modelling based on information from local authorities and the family expenditure survey. The local authority estimates do not separate expenditure into housing benefit paid with, or without, receipt of income support.

Notes:

In Tables 1 and 2 Pensioners represent claimants or partners aged 60 or over; Lone Parents include only those who receive the lone parent premium.
