To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the highest import levy on wheat in the last 12 months; and what is the import levy on wheat on the most recent convenient date.

In the period 25 July 1989 to 24 July 1990 the highest rate of import levy on wheat (CN Codes 10 01 10 10 and 10 01 10 90) was £137.5144 per metric tonne.

The levy rate at 24 July 1990 was £103.0138 per metric tonne.

The import levy on maize (CN Code 10 05 90 00) at 24 July 1990 was £103.4049 per metric tonne. This levy rate was the highest in the period 25 July 1989 to to 24 July 1990.
