Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the convention for the physical protection of nuclear materials; and if he will list those states that have ratified it.

Mr. Baldry

The United Kingdom hopes to ratify the convention, along with other European Community member states, in the autumn. In the meantime, we follow the guidance of the convention on practical measures for the physical protection of nuclear material and for movements between states.

Those countries which have ratified or acceded to the convention are:
