To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his reply of 6 July,Official Report, column 762, whether it is his policy to consult and reach agreement with defence companies on the nature and type of information that may be of commercial value to their competitors.

Any information relating to commercial undertakings, processes or affairs given to the Ministry of Defence by companies is regarded as being in confidence unless the company concerned and the Ministry of Defence agree that it can be released.
