How many city technology colleges have been established and how many more are planned; and how much of the cost has been met from public funds and how much by industry and commerce.

Three city technology colleges are up and running and a further 11 are due to open in 1990 and 1991. Up to the end of June 1990, the Department of Education and Science had authorised £55.51 million on the CTC programme, covering startup costs, capital and recurrent funding. Up to this date, sponsors had made payments totalling £4.53 million. Sponsors' contributions relate only to capital costs and are frequently phased on a covenanted basis.
