§ Mr. TrippierI met the chairman of the National Rivers Authority on 9 July to discuss a range of issues relating to the water environment. Since then I have announced that an additional £11 million will be made available to the authority this financial year, if required, over and above the £93 million grant-in-aid already agreed. This decision will enable the authority to continue its planned capital programme and to carry out its pollution control and other functions, in line with the Government's commitment to maintaining the quality of the water environment.
