§ 45. Mr. MichaelTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current state of relations between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Somalia and on the hopes for an end to the internal conflict in Somalia.
§ Mr. WaldegraveWe have made clear to the Somali Government that respect for human rights and good government are the touchstones of our bilateral relations. We have been urging all parties to the conflict to negotiate, but the Somali National Movement continues to refuse to do so with the present Government.
