Mr. KnapmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress is being made in negotiations with the European Free Trade Association for the extension of the single market to European Free Trade Association countries through the creation of a European economic area.
§ Mr. MaudeThese negotiations opened on 20 June and are being conducted in five working groups. Both the Community and the European Free Trade Association countries want agreement by the end of 1990 on the creation of the European economic area. We strongly support this.
