HC Deb 10 July 1990 vol 176 c153W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list any new responsibilities which will be exercised by district health authorities in Wales in addition to those previously exercised(a) prior to the passing of the national health service and Community Care Act and (b) prior to the full implementation of the Government's plan for reform of the national health service.

Mr. Grist

Under our programme of reforms, DHAs will be responsible for securing quality health services for their resident populations, rather than, as before, providing a service within a given geographical area.

In addition, when the relevant provisions of the Act come into force, authorities will be responsible for determining the extent to which accommodation and services are made available for private patients.
