§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement setting out the uses to which the general purposes fund was put, the classes of prisoner to whom payments were made and the basis on which the payments were calculated.
§ Mr. MellorThe general purposes fund is used to provide recreational and sporting facilities for all prisoners in addition to those provided from public funds and to provide facilities for inmates' spouses and families. Cash payments may be made at the discretion of governors on special occasions.
