To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what discussions he has had with people interested in forming a local enterprise company for Renfrewshire; and if he will make a statement.

Neither I nor my right hon. and learned Friend have personally had discussions with people interested in forming a local enterprise company for Renfrewshire, but officials from my Department and from the Training Agency and the SDA have been working closely with the steering group led by Mr. John McClelland, director IBM, Greenock, which has now submitted an application for development funding for a local enterprise company for Renfrewshire.
