To ask the Minister for the Arts what steps he is taking to encourage arts bodies to tour both at home and abroad.

Mr. Luce

The Arts Council is responsible for actively encouraging touring within the United Kingdom. The council has established a Great Britain touring fund to encourage arts bodies to tour throughout the country. The fund's budget has gone up from £1.5 million last year to £2 million for this year and for 1990–91. Support for overseas touring is the responsibility of the British Council.
