Of the 29 major businesses privatised since 1979, the following were in profit in 1979: British Petroleum, British Aerospace, Cable and Wireless, National Freight Consortium, Britoil, Amersham International, Associated British Ports, Sealink, British Telecom, British Gas, British Airways, Royal Ordnance, Rolls-Royce, BAA, Northumbrian Water, South West Water.
