To ask the Minister for the Arts what increase in the funding of the Arts Council is proposed for the next two financial years.

Mr. Luce

I announced in November that next year the Arts Council's grant-in-aid will be set at £175 million, an increase of 12.5 per cent. over 1989–90. In 1991–92 that will rise by a further 4.6 per cent. to £183 million. Over the next three years, the overall increase will be 22 per cent.
